Senior Embedded Software Engineer

What will you do?

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you are a key driver in the design, development, and optimization of advanced embedded software for Alfen’s innovative products in the fields of energy storage and EV charging.

You take ownership from the early concept phase to product delivery, ensuring robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions that directly contribute to a smarter, more reliable, and sustainable electricity grid. You are not only hands-on in coding and testing but also act as a technical mentor for colleagues, contributing to architecture decisions and code quality standards.

Your main responsibilities include:

• Translating complex functional requirements into robust embedded software architectures.

• Designing, programming, and validating embedded software using multiple programming languages.

• Collaborating closely with hardware engineers to create integrated and validated solutions.

• Leading technical reviews, setting coding guidelines, and ensuring best practices within the team.

• Supporting prototype builds, testing, and production introductions.

• Exploring new technologies and driving innovation within the embedded domain.

• Documenting software in the technical construction file and supporting user documentation.

• Coaching and mentoring junior engineers, sharing expertise and guiding their growth.

What do we ask of you?

You are a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving technical challenges and building impactful embedded systems. You are analytical, structured, and a strong communicator who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment.

You also live in the Netherlands and have the right to work here. Your background includes:

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field.

• 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.

• Solid programming experience in C/C++, and preferably familiarity with Python or other relevant languages.

• Strong affinity with hardware, real-time systems, and communication protocols.

• Experience with Agile/Scrum, preferably combined with test-driven development.

• Strong command of both Dutch and English, spoken and written.

• Experience with architectural design, technical reviews, and guiding less experienced developers is a strong plus.
