Technical Writer

What will you do?

As a Technical Writer at Alfen, you are the bridge between technology and language. You develop and manage technical documentation such as installation manuals, user instructions, and product specifications for energy storage systems, EV chargers, transformer substations, and smart grids.

You’ll be part of our multidisciplinary R&D team and work closely with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and structure crucial information for creating product documentation. Within the Technical Writers team, you’ll be supported by an enthusiastic Team Lead. You’ll write in both Dutch and English and actively contribute to the consistency and quality of our documentation.

Your key responsibilities:

• Design accurate and clear technical illustrations and diagrams to support documentation and communication.
• Create well-structured documents in our CMS that describe technical processes, products, or systems.
• Make technical content understandable for various audiences, such as internal teams or external customers.
• Keep documentation up to date and ensure changes are correctly implemented.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary project teams and meetings.
• There is ample room to improve the design and consistency of documentation.

What do we ask of you?

You are analytical, linguistically skilled, and have an affinity for technology. You bring:

• HBO/WO level education in a technical field.
• Knowledge of 3D CAD software (such as Creo Illustrate).
• Experience working in a CMS and with DITA XML using an XML editor.
• At least 2 to 3 years of experience as a Technical Writer in a project-based environment.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Illustrator and InDesign.
• Familiarity with Simplified Technical English (STE).
• Strong command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
• A proactive and independent attitude.
